ABOUT
“Gimme Some Lovin’” is a film written by Chicago playwright Joe Petrolis and produced by Atlas Media Ventures. I was asked by producer Joe Orlandino if I’d be interested in directing a film adaptation of a local stage play, and it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Having never directed an adaptation before, it was a great learning experience. Translating the story to a different medium without sacrificing what made it such a great play was challenging, but exciting. The film stars the original cast from the stage, one of whom had no experience being on camera. Performing for the stage and performing for the camera are two completely different beasts, so it was very fun getting the actors to translate their performances and adapt to a new medium. Additionally, we were only given one day for production and a crew of only 5 people. To this day, the fact that we shot a 15 page script in just one day with a skeleton crew is one of my proudest accomplishments, and it could not have been done without the people involved.
