Heirloom

DIT, Editor, Visual Effects Supervisor

(2019): A woman is forced to consider the future of her family when she discovers she may have inherited a generational disease.

ABOUT

“Heirloom” was produced by Talus Films as a part of their year long 12x12 project, which saw the Talus team producing, shooting, and editing 12 short projects all within a year. I served as the DIT and editor on this project, and it was a huge undertaking, with around 2 terabytes of RAW footage. This was the first multi-camera narrative piece I edited, and while it was great having so many options as far as takes and angles, it definitely got a little overwhelming at times just from an organizational standpoint. Sitting down with director Ethan Uphouse and going over each scene was great for both of us, because rather than just picking which shots were visually appealing or which shots cut together the best, we were able to really dissect each scene and find those cuts that captured the essence of the story. This project was a great balance of creativity in terms of piecing together the story in the edit and efficiency, with lessons in organization, file management, and logistics.
