“The Perfect Cup” is a project I did during the quarantine of 2020. In the midst of all the confusion and struggle surrounding the pandemic, I felt I had lost myself a bit. I hadn’t created anything in a long time, and was scared I was losing my artistic touch. So I came up with an idea. I wanted to highlight something so simple and present it in a way that invites calmness and peacefulness in a difficult time. This project was my metaphorical sigh of relief; a way to stay mindful and optimistic. It was also a great opportunity to explore the aspects of filmmaking that I traditionally don’t touch, such as cinematography and sound design. It was all put together over the course of a few days and released just as a fun, short piece. The response I got was incredible and completely unexpected. It went on to win Best Cinematography and the Ambrosia Food and Drink Film Festival, my first ever cinematography win.
